Group Slams Benin Chief Over Oshiomhole’s Alleged Endorsement
The Benin Proactive Collective (BPC), comprising core Benin professionals from the seven local government areas that make up Edo South Senatorial District, has slammed the Esogban of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri, for purportedly dragging the Benin monarchy into the politics of endorsement of Governor Adams Oshiomhole who is seeking re-election in the schedule July 14 election.
The group, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, EdosomwanImariagbe-Eson, said the pronouncements made by Edebiri in an interview granted a national daily to the effect that the Benin people had endorsed the candidature of Oshiomhole were calculated to “score cheap political points and insure the source from where his family bread is being robustly buttered.”
The statement reads: “Our attention was drawn to the actions and pronouncements of certain agents of the present administration in Edo State who, by accident of history and culture, are occupying prime positions in the Benin cultural set-up, claiming to be the mouthpiece of our people and our revered monarch who by all measures has been impartial and non-partisan.
“We are constrained to alert all well-meaning Benin people that there is an on-going intrigue and sinister plot by a cabal to foist Adams Oshiomhole on the people of Edo South Senatorial District in the guise that such imposition is an order from the palace of the Oba of Benin.
